Flow cytometry is a technique used to analyse the physical properties of individual cells based on a number of parameters, including their shape and complexity. This method was originally used by immunologists, but flow cytometry now has applications in cell and molecular biology. A flow cytometer works by passing hundreds of thousands of cells in a liquid medium through a beam of light. The light that emerges is captured and used to analyse the cell's properties. A knowledge of immunology, molecular or cell biology is needed for a role in flow cytometry sales / support. |
