About Takeda

Takeda UK is a wholly owned subsidiary of Japan's leading pharmaceutical company. Building on a distinguished 230-year heritage, Takeda today is the world’s 12th largest manufacturer of ethical medicines, a research-based global enterprise with affiliates in 71 countries and employing some 31,000 people.

During the past 15 years Takeda has established three separate organisations in the UK:

- Takeda UK was established in High Wycombe in 1997 to commercialise our products in the country.

- Takeda Cambridge our pre-clinical research division, supplements our research centres in Japan, Singapore and the USA. With world-class target identification and validation capabilities, Takeda Cambridge works to develop novel approaches to the treatment of disease in key areas of unmet medical need including cancer, gastroenterology, endocrinology, metabolic and cardiovascular-related diseases.

- In 2004 Takeda Global Research & Development Centre (Europe) was set up in London in order to establish a system to conduct clinical trials and applications for approval for the US and European R&D functions under a close cooperative framework.

In the UK as elsewhere, the recent acquisition of Nycomed is part of the process of creating a 'new' Takeda, even better able to meet the needs of our customers by evolving a broader portfolio of new specialised medicines. This expansion into other therapy areas is underpinned by the same patient-centred partnership approach that has driven our success so far.
