| | Takeda Jobs Profile | Company Overview
Takeda UK was established in 1997 to coincide with the launch of candesartan cilexetil (Amias®), an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB). Candesartan cilexetil was co-promoted with business partner AstraZeneca. Takeda UK now holds the sole marketing rights to candesartan cilexetil in the UK and candesartan is now the UK's second most prescribed ARB.
In November 2000 Takeda UK launched another new compound, pioglitazone (Actos®), a member of the thiazolidinedione (TZD) class for treating type 2 diabetes. Pioglitazone has achieved a monthly turnover of over 30,000 treatment units and, as a key treatment option in diabetes and endocrinology, it is enjoying rapid and increased uptake. The success of the pioglitazone launch resulted in Takeda UK jointly winning the prestigious Pharmaceutical Company of the Year section at the 2001 Pharmaceutical Marketing Effectiveness Awards.
Takeda UK's challenge in 1997 was to firmly establish the company in the UK market. Based on the success of candesartan cilexetil and pioglitazone, Takeda UK IMS turnover for the calendar year of 2004 was £50.7 million. This level of sales, coupled with continued growth, has seen Takeda UK gain a top 30 ranking among UK pharmaceutical companies.
Takeda UK remains the fastest growing pharmaceutical company in the UK top 50. The company is firmly established and is ideally positioned for the next phase in its growth cycle.
