The Group has four core business areas: Special Education facilities include residential special schools for young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties, mild learning difficulties, autism and asperger's syndrome. Therapeutic Communities provide special education and therapeutic care to young people with more complex needs. These establishments all provide specialist educational services for children and young people, allowing them to fulfil their potential and take their place in society. Acute Hospitals comprise sixteen facilities across England plus one unit in Scotland. They provide high quality care in three key areas - psychiatric disorders, addictions and eating disorders - offering inpatient, day care and out-patient support. Treatment programmes are available for a wide range of conditions including depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, obsessive compulsive disorder, alcohol and drug dependency, food addiction, anorexia nervosa and bulimia. Some of the units also provide child and adolescent psychiatric services. Neuro-Rehabilitation Centres provide neurological assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and respite care on a residential basis to both adults and children with acquired brain injury. These centres aim to improve quality of life by increasing independence, reducing care requirements, facilitating adjustment to disability and the return to home, work or studies. The treatment programmes are tailored to the specific needs of the individual, focusing on the use of the patient's ability to relearn lost skills, regain confidence and learn to cope with areas of disability. Secure and Step-down facilities include the Priory Secure Services hospitals that provide specialist secure mental health services, working in partnership with the NHS. These hospitals offer long term secure care and treatment tailored to individual patient needs and are delivered within an environment that is safe and supportive. The treatment and support aims to maximise the potential of each individual, to increase self-esteem, promote independence and improve their quality of life. The hospitals provide a creative, therapeutic environment in which patients are given time to make their own choices and decisions.
