BSN medical was originally formed as a joint venture in 2001 between Beiersdorf, Inc. and Smith & Nephew, Inc. In early 2006, BSN medical became a fully independent player in the Wound Care, non-invasive Orthopaedics and Phlebology segments.

BSN medical has a total workforce of over 3,000 employees worldwide and operates in 38 countries. The company is comprised of five business units - Fracture Management, LymphologyPhlebology (Jobst), Physiotherapy, and Wound Care - with yearly sales in excess of $500 million.
